Snowcard Travel Insurance

Snowcard Insurance Services was established in 1990. The company was originally created for skiers, who needed to carry proof of medical and rescue insurance in the Alps. This concept has expanded and developed into all-round activity insurance covering not only winter sports, but also general mountain sports and water sports as well as the usual standard travel risks.

Have used them for a few years, last year they were great when my partner injured herself in Morgins Switzerland, no complaints.

Snowcard is especially aimed at travellers who will be partaking in some kind of activity during their holiday, although it can also be used as a standard travel insurance policy. It offers single-trip, multi-trip and long-stay insurance, so pretty much everything is covered.

The website is very simple to use, and has four main sections at the top for the four most common activities: ski and snowboard insurance; walking, climbing and mountain biking; scuba diving; and water sports.

Getting a quote is pretty simple, you just enter the type of sport you will be doing from the drop-down menu and click on the ‘Get Quote’ button.

You then choose your activity level from 0-6, and are presented with four different cover options, ranging from ‘medical only’ to ‘full cover’. This is great as the premiums can sometimes be a bit more expensive than a standard policy, so having the option to reduce cover is very useful. It is all a very easy process, and once you have got your quote you simply buy it with a credit or debit card.

The main benefit of this company is the sheer number of sports covered. Some insurance providers try to tell you that they cover lots of activities, when in fact they often don’t cover up to the same levels, or either come with tougher restrictions.

If you are taking part in any activity, no matter how safe it seems, this is definitely a good company to go with. And if you are doing any serious sports then it is indispensable. It may be a bit pricier but you get what you pay for with insurance, and where activities are involved it just isn’t worth the risk.
