I got stuck in NYC when hurricane sandy hit. Our flight was cancelled and in the end we had 5 extra days in NYC until we could get a flight home. All Directline will pay out is delayed payment. The will not cover all my extra costs accomodation etc. They have disaster cover in their travel policy but apparently it doesn't cover me. They have lost another customer.

Hi, I would avoid direct line at all costs. I Needed to claim for cancelled trip in July. Assured it would all be fine. Sento ff claim and medical form (cost of £50). Rang a week later to be told it had been received and woul be processed in 10 days. Rang 2 weeks later to be told theyd lost the form. Sent another 1 (£50 again). Rang mid august and told it was all ok just checking some details with trip organiser end august confirmed they had details required and would pay out mid september told cheque on its way. 10 days later said they would stop first cheque and send another. End september made a formal complaint and was told cheque would be sent that day. 3 further calls and e-mails still no cheque. Blooming useless.

A group of my friends recently decided to take out a policy with Direct Line Travel Insurance prior to embarking on their holiday around Europe. Fortunately, their trip was uneventful and they did not need to file a claim. They found the actual process of purchasing travel insurance online to be largely hassle free. They did have to ring up Direct Line’s offices to check up on a few aspects of their policy but found staff to be courteous and efficient and had no complaints about the quality of service that was offered to them.

In hindsight, however, they were not convinced that Direct Line Travel Insurance provided them with the best value for money. Their decision to buy holiday cover from Direct Line was influenced largely by the fact that their families had done so in the past and so it seemed to be the safest option as they had left buying travel cover to the last minute! In the future, they would certainly prefer to shop around a bit more prior to investing in travel insurance.
