I walked into my local branch and spoke to an account advisor, who told me that with a winter sports holiday I had a number of options with Barclays insurance, and there were certain excesses that I could waive. I went for the travel plus policy, and the winter sports add-on.
On the holiday I had a fall at high speed. I was unconscious for a short time, and had to take a gondola off the mountain, at which point I started to feel dizzy and my neck started to seize up. I went to the medical centre to get myself checked out, and had a number of x-rays. I was prescribed painkillers and given a neck brace. My medical treatment cost 340 euros.
It was easy to make my claim. When I returned to the UK, I filled in a claims form that had been part of the pack that I received when I bought my insurance and sent it off with my receipts. I also sent a letter I asked for at the medical centre to show the breakdown of my treatment costs, just to make things clear. My claim was approved within four weeks.
I would recommend Barclays Insurance as it is easy to obtain, and it is made very clear that you can tailor your policy to your holiday. The claiming process was also problem-free. It was on the expensive side, but it turned out to be worth every penny.
