Defaqto finds cover for scheduled airline failure limited
0 commentsDefaqto has warned travellers to double check their travel insurance policies carefully after finding that 77% of policies don’t provide cover for scheduled airline failure.
Of the policies it examined, Defaqto found that:
- 21% of single-trip insurance policies contained scheduled airline failure cover, with an extra 2% including it as optional
- 20% of annual trip cover included scheduled airline failure cover, with 2% including it as an optional extra
- 14% of extended trip insurance contained the cover, with 1% available as an optional extra
This all means that if travellers are affected then they may not have sufficient cover for many extra expenses such as hotels, car hire and trips that have already been paid for.
Brian Brown, the head of research at Defaqto, said that "while many give cover of £1,500 or more for scheduled airline failure”, it may “not be sufficient” for other items that have been paid for.
According to Defaqto, a further precaution that travellers can take is to purchase their tickets using a credit card. This provides a level of protection for most purchases so if there is a problem with the airline then it could come in handy.
Everyone has different needs when it comes to travel insurance, so it is always important to check through the policies on offer as they can differ considerably. Choose the one that is right for you and provides cover for everything you need, and you will have a more relaxing trip without having to worry about what could potentially go wrong.
