Mumbai attacks highlight need for specialist insurance cover

At a time when terrorist attacks in Bangkok and Mumbai are at the forefront of the news, we have all been reminded that getting a travel insurance policy to cover such events is more important than ever. However, it is important to know that most policies will not cover costs incurred as a result of security delays and terrorist attacks.

Security Delay Insurance (Website no longer exists Jan 2013) aims to make sure that travellers will not be stranded and left with high costs after these events. This product will cover you for unforeseen costs such as extra travel tickets up to the value of £6,500, and additional travel costs to transport you to an unaffected airport.

The usual procedure would be for a £5-£10 meal ticket from your airline, but if you take out Security Delay Insurance from as little as £5 including tax, you will be provided with up to £200 per day per person, which can be used to purchase essentials (excluding tobacco and alcohol)! What's more, if you can't fly out from another airport, you will be covered for up to £350 hotel accommodation per night, spanning a 3 night period! This would be a great comfort when sleeping in the airport is the last thing you want to do!

There are many other costs you would be covered for due to a security delay or terrorist attack, and in these uncertain times, it is worth paying the price of a coffee and cake for peace of mind!

The policy, offered by Totally Insured Group, has no age or medical restrictions, and is available to UK residents travelling anywhere in the world (with normal FCO restrictions applying) for as little as £5!
