Skiers urged to take out insurance
4 commentsEsure has released a statement urging British fans of winter sports to take out proper travel insurance this winter. The company realises that at this time of global financial uncertainty there is an increasing temptation to go without cover. However, this decision could prove disastrous in the long-term.
Esure travel insurance has found that 18% of people questioned would choose not to purchase insurance in an attempt to save on the overall cost of their winter sports break. Nearly two million Brits are expected to travel abroad in search of some excitement on the slopes during the imminent ski season and, without proper cover, thousands of people are putting themselves at great risk.
The research has also revealed that skiers and snowboarders who are suffering financially at the moment are being forced to change their holidaying habits. More than 65% of those questioned are thinking about making their winter break shorter, and many are even considering just going away for a long weekend.
Furthermore, almost half of those questioned were considering staying in the UK and hoping for good snow conditions on the Scottish slopes. A similar percentage of people have also thought about choosing an unusual destination in Europe or North America in an attempt to save money.
The Head of Travel Insurance at the company, Mike Pickard, believes that it is “crucial to ensure you’re fully covered” because accidents can, and do, happen on the ski slopes. He was quick to point out the importance of insurance for those considering alternative destinations, including Poland. Medical facilities and rescue services may not be up to scratch in smaller, less well-known ski resorts.
