Don't forget Insurance for the Big Match!

Thousands of Chelsea and Manchester United fans will be travelling to Moscow next week to watch their teams fight it out in the Champions League Final.

However, in amidst all the nail biting and excitement, many will forget to take out travel insurance for the event.

It may seem strange that you should need to take out insurance to travel to a nearby country for a couple of days, but the same risks are presented as if you were travelling on a worldwide trip for six months.

Accidents can happen anywhere, and if you are unfortunate enough to need hospital treatment then the costs will be high. Being in a hospital in a foreign country is not a pleasant experience, but it is a lot worse if you know that you cannot afford the treatment. Do not expect the UK Embassy to come and help you if you get into trouble. They only help out in very rare circumstances, and if you cannot afford your hospital fees then they will not come running.

The same is true for personal liability and legal expenses. If you get into trouble whilst in Russia and are unlucky enough to get arrested, then you could be lumbered with some huge financial costs. All good insurance providers will offer these levels of cover on their most basic policies, so it really won’t break the bank to arrange these beforehand.

Although less crucial, the fact that so many people will be travelling in such a short period of time means that delays to flights are almost a certainty, and baggage is sure to go missing.

Make sure you are covered for such events by taking out insurance that offers Delayed Departure, Missed Departure and Personal Baggage levels of cover. It will be disastrous enough to be stuck in Heathrow airport when the match kicks off, so don’t compound the misery by having to pay for the transport and accommodation that you have missed out on, or for the bags that have disappeared.

Travelling to the Champions League Final will involve so much organising and costs that it would be ridiculous not to take travel insurance into account. It is cheaper than you realise, and can be arranged quickly and easily online, so there is no excuse for travelling without it.

With many supporters travelling out to Moscow for the match, all sorts of companies have brought out special offers. MBNA have introduced a special credit card dedicated to people who want to show their support for their football team. They are offering the Manchester United Credit Card and the Chelsea FC Credit Card which both give you a very competitive 0% on balance transfers for 12 months (3% handling fee applies), 0% on card purchases for 3 months and 15.9% APR typical (variable) on card purchases, The Manchester United Credit Card gives you the opportunity to earn 'RedRewards', which could see you winning a host of Money-Can't-Buy Man Utd prizes! While the Chelsea FC Credit Card is a great way to play your part in securing the long term future of the club! Chelsea FC receives a one-off payment for every approved account and further contributions for every card purchase. All contributions and one-off payments the club receives will be used to help further youth development.
