Teletext to launch travel insurance

Teletext has teamed up with Citybond Suretravel in order to provide a travel insurance service under the Teletext brand. The policies are underwritten by a Dutch insurance firm Elvia Travel Insurance International.

The insurance schemes can be booked online or via Teletext’s digital TV service. Teletext’s service claims to be priced very competitively and to provide real benefits. You can get cover for a three-day trip to Europe for as little as £5.62.

Annual multi-trip travel insurance can be bought for £33.15 per person.

The policies cover such eventualities as cancellation, emergency medical treatment, passport loss, loss or theft of other personal possessions or money, serious personal accidents, cancellation of music or sporting events, double bookings, personal liability and legal costs. Cover is available for those up to the age of 85.

Optional extras are offered for those going on skiing holidays who wish to insure against loss or damage to ski equipment and piste closure, and similarly for golfers who wish to insure against loss or damage to clubs and loss of green fees.

The Managing Director of Teletext Holidays, Matt Cheevers, said: “Travel insurance is generally the last of the holiday essentials to be booked before heading off overseas, but we hope now that we are able to offer this service to our customers they will arrange their travel insurance at the time of booking their trip.”

Teletext Holidays is one of the most popular ways of booking cheap package deals at the last minute – customers can now insure their trips at the same time as booking them.
